Purging a Glove Box
At this point the gloves act as an indicator of pressure within the chamber. Watch them as they move in and out of the chamber. Positive pressure pushes the gloves out of the chamber and negative pressure draws them back in.
STEP 1:
Attach a small vacuum pump to the upper cock key valve on the left wall. Attach your preferred gas line to the lower key cock valve (by the access door).
STEP 2:
Blow in a slow flow of Nitrogen (N2) or gas of choice. Raise level of your gas input until the gloves stick out of the chamber approximately 18cm.
STEP 3:
Turn off the gas and turn on the vacuum pump. This will draw off the inner atmosphere until the gloves draw into the chamber. The vacuum should be on until the gloves draw into the chamber 18cm.
STEP 4:
Stop the vacuum pump and turn on the gas again. Keep the gas on until the gloves stick out of the chamber 18cm.
STEP 5:
Repeat steps #2, #3 and #4 at least two more times (three purge cycles) then turn off.
STEP 6:
Turn off the vacuum pump and gas inlet. You now have purged the chamber. The inner atmosphere will primarily be your gas of choice.
