The PLAS LABS Feret restrainer is a modifed version of a similar device
initailly described by Dr. Daniel McLain in the Volume #35, No. 7 issue of
Lab Animalmagazine.
The PLAS LABS units are offered in four (4) sizes taking into consideration
the animals age, weight, and sex. The units are constructed of optical quality
clear acrylic (Perspex™), and a formed black plastic nose cone with an
Acetal™ locking slide. The main restraining cylinder can be rotated 360° to
provide complete access to the animal. All units are mounted on a white
acrylic base plate with suction cup feet to guarantee reliable stabilty during
testing procedures. Counter top space required is 11.5" x 21."
The restrainers are offered as follows;
Catalog #571-FR, Size 64 mm I.D. x 18" long for animal weight range
of 400-700 Grams.
Catalog #572-FR, Size 79 mm I.D. x 18" long for animal weight range
of 650-1,100 Grams.
Catalog #573-FR, Size 88 mm I.D. x 18" long for animal weight range
of 1,000-1,750 Grams.
Catalog #574-FR, Size 101 mm I.D. x 18" long for animal weight range
of 1,500-2,000 Grams.
Insertion of the animal: Make sure the black nose cone is located near the
front end of the restrainer.
1. Place a small towel over (on top of) the clear plastic cylinder, loosen
the two (2)black knobs, and remove the rear tail plate.
2. Position the Ferret at the rear of the unit making sure the nose is
pointing into the cylinder. The Ferret will enter the cylinder.
3. Lift the animals tail and insert it through the long slot in the rear tail plate.
Adjust the tail in the plate, and tighten the two (2)black knobs.
4. Loosen the front nose cone locking knob and slide the cone up to the Ferret's
nose. When adjusted correctly, tighten the nose cone locking knob.
